Our client is in the marine industry and is seeking a Lead Mechanic to join their team. In this role, you will be responsible for ensuring the reliability and safety of a diverse fleet of pearling vessels and associated machinery. About your next role

In this role, you will lead the maintenance and repair efforts for a fleet of specialised vessels. You will work mainly on land, though you may occasionally be required to go out on the water. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Overseeing engineering tasks for pearling vessels and onsite machinery
  • Performing mechanical repairs and routine servicing.
  • Leading a small team of mechanics to ensure all refit and servicing programs are completed on schedule
  • Conducting diagnostics and repairs on marine engines and hydraulic systems
  • Maintaining a safe and organised workshop environment to support effective operations
  • Assisting with remote site maintenance
  • Ensuring all work complies with strict maritime safety standards

What you will need to bring

To be successful in this lead position, you should have a strong technical background and a proactive approach to problem solving. We look for:

  • Relevant Trade Certificate in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent
  • Proven experience as a mechanic, preferably with marine or heavy machinery background
  • Strong leadership skills and the ability to mentor junior team members
  • Excellent communication skills for working in close-knit team environments
  • Resilience and adaptability when required to work in remote locations
  • A high level of physical fitness suited for 9 to 10-hour shifts

Mandatory Requirements

  • Australian Trade Qualification (Mechanical)
  • Ability to pass a Pre-employment Medical, including Drug and Alcohol testing
  • Current Manual Driver’s License
  • Construction White Card
